Frequently Asked Questions

Why does The Medical Center/Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital need the Hospitality House on its campus?

  • Nearly half of The Medical Center's patients travel from outside of Warren County and, on average, spend nearly five days in the hospital.
  • Patients of Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital have complex medical conditions that require extended stays of 18-35 days.
  • Having loved ones close by is often an important factor in the recovery and recuperation process of critically ill patients, including open heart surgery patients at The Medical Center.
  • The Hospitality House is also for the parents of a premature baby who want to stay close to their child who must remain in the hospital long after the mother has been discharged.
  • The Hospitality House is also for cancer patients who must undergo radiation therapy but don't have the means to travel back and forth to Bowling Green - five days each week, for several weeks of therapy.

How did you determine what the Hospitality House will look like and the number of guest rooms?

  • Our Hospitality House is based on the National Association of Hospital Hospitality House standards.
  • It has 12 private Guestrooms, each with a private bath, large Community and Dining areas as well as a full Kitchen, a Prayer Room for quiet meditation and a Business Center with computers and internet access.
  • The Hospitality House is designed to allow for future expansion.
  • The House complies with all ADA requirements, features a sprinkler system, and has paid staff on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Will guests be charged to stay at the Hospitality House?

  • There is not a charge to stay at the Hospitality House; however, donations to help support the operation of the Hospitality House are gratefully accepted.
  • No one will be turned away from the Hospitality House because of an inability to pay.

What are the criteria to stay at the Hospitality House?

  • Guests of the Hospitality House will be adult family members or caregivers of seriously ill patients receiving inpatient hospital care at The Medical Center at Bowling Green or Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital, or outpatients receiving active medical treatment.
  • Children are not allowed to stay at the Hospitality House. It has been determined that allowing children to stay is not in the best interest of the guests or the hospitalized patients. Guests of the Hospitality House need to be completely focused and available for their loved ones who are battling illness or recovering from surgery.
  • Potential guests will be evaluated based on the following criteria: distance from home, acuity of patient in the hospital, transportation difficulty, lack of local support system and financial difficulty.
  • Guests will be referred through the hospital's Social Services Department based on the need for a family member or caregiver to remain close to the patient.
  • The House will serve all who need it regardless of religious belief, race, or economic status.

Now that construction of the Hospitality House is complete and you are already serving guests, is there still a need for fundraising?

  • Absolutely.  While our campaign goal is to raise $1 million to begin an Endowment Fund specifically for the Hospitality House, we need an estimated $5 - 6 million in the Hospitality House Endowment Fund to cover the operating costs associated with the House.
  • Additional operating funds will be generated through guest donations and specific fundraising events for the Hospitality House.
  • Gifts of $10,000 or more (payable over five years), will be recognized on the donor wall within the Hospitality House. Naming opportunities for The Hospitality House begin at $50,000.
  • All donations are very much appreciated.
